How to properly maintain your wooden cutting board?

1. Clean properly after each use

After each use, rinse your board with hot water and scrub it with a soft brush and mild soap. Avoid the dishwasher: prolonged heat and humidity can crack or warp it.

💡 Menastyl Tip: Dry it immediately with a clean cloth to avoid stagnant moisture.

2. Disinfect naturally

To eliminate bacteria, use natural solutions:

  • White vinegar: apply a few drops and leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse.
  • Lemon and salt: Sprinkle with salt, rub with half a lemon, then rinse.

These methods are effective and respectful of the wood.

3. Oil regularly

Wood absorbs water and can crack over time. To moisturize and protect it, apply a special food-safe wood oil about once a month:

  • Spread the oil with a clean cloth
  • Let it penetrate for a few hours
  • Wipe off the excess

Result: your board remains flexible, beautiful and resistant.

4. Avoid bad practices

  • Do not soak your board in water
  • Do not cut directly on it with very abrasive knives if possible
  • Avoid exposing it to the sun or heat for too long

These simple actions extend its lifespan and preserve your knives.

6. Avoid scratches and cracks

Although wood is sturdy, it can wear over time. To limit scratches and cracks, always use sharp knives and avoid cutting very hard foods like bones or nuts directly on the board. Also, remember to rotate your board regularly to distribute wear and maintain a uniform, comfortable surface.
